Competitive spirit from a young age
Akke Rahman, was born in Jagannathpur, Bangladesh, to a Bengali Muslim family, made history in 2022 by becoming the first.
Rahman’s athleticism and competitive spirit, honed through his childhood achievements in triple jump and running, laid the foundation for his eventual success as a mountaineer. Despite starting climbing later in life, his natural talent and dedication allowed him to quickly become a skilled mountaineer. In 2020, he broke the UK record for climbing Mount Elbrus, reaching the summit in less than 24 hours. This achievement gave him the confidence that he was ready to tackle Mount Everest.
Rahman’s rapid progression from novice to Everest summiter is all the more impressive considering that he started climbing later in life. After successfully climbing Mount Snowdon, he set his sights on higher peaks, and quickly notched up ascents of Mount Elbrus, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, and Ama Dablam. With each climb, Rahman gained valuable experience and honed his skills, preparing him for the ultimate challenge, Mount Everest.

In 2023, Akke Rahman climbed Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, before being appointed as UKIM’s Brand Ambassador. This prestigious appointment is a testament to Rahman’s incredible mountaineering skills and his unwavering commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity in the sport.
In his new role as UKIM’s Brand Ambassador, Rahman is setting his heart on even bigger challenges, with the ultimate goal of climbing K2, the second highest mountain in the world, and Mount Everest again, amongst other mountains. These ambitious goals reflect Rahman’s relentless pursuit of excellence and his desire to inspire others to push the boundaries of what is possible.
